Biography
The Coup is a political hip hop group based in Oakland, California. It formed as a three-member group in 1990 with emcees Raymond “Boots” Riley and E-Roc along with DJ Pam the Funkstress.
With the release of the “Steal this Album in 1998, The Coup began incorporating the live instrumentation from their recordings into their live show. They have since that time, been a full band. Along the way, they’ve released four classic and award-winning albums: Kill My Landlord (1993), Genocide and Juice (1994), Steal this Album (1998), Party Music (2001), which was named “best rap album of the year” by numerous publications including Rolling Stone and Village Voice. Regarding their album “Pick a Bigger Weapon”, Rolling Stone calls it “the rare record that makes revolution sound like hot fun on a Saturday night. They released their brandnew album “Sorry to bother you” at the end of October 2012. Their energy especially translates in their exceptional live shows, something not to be missed.
