Biography

When merging hip-hop culture, electronic innovation, a soul/funk spirit and a punk attitude – you can often reference the magic that is J*DaVeY, a multi-talented duo out of Los Angeles, CA. Composed of vocalist/emcee Jack Davey and producer/writer Brook D’Leau, J*DaVeY has gradually captured the attention of an international cult following over the past ten years. Their progressive style and organic chemistry being comparable to that of Missy Elliot and Timbaland; J*DaVeY is known to give you a “drug-induced” soundscape that takes you far beyond the confines of any particular genre.
With enough features and world tours under their belt to be considered a pop sensation, J*DaVeY has reached their tipping point in the music industry. The group’s highlights include touring with Erykah Badu and Janelle Monae (2010) and internationally with Sa-Ra Creative Partners (2004), special performances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (2008) as well as Mens Fashion Week in Paris for the Head Designer of La Coste (2007) and performing as Direct Support for The Roots, Erykah and Jay-Z live at Radio City Music Hall (2006) and Prince (2006) at his Las Vegas club 3121 after he invited them personally to perform with him. Over the years, J*DaVeY has liscenced music to CSI:NY, Bossin’ Up (Snoop Dogg), Nike’s Latin America Campaign, Alize and worked closely with top songwriters such as Kara Dioguardi & Cathy Dennis (American Idol Judge) and top producers Greg Wells (Katy Perry, Mika, Timbaland), Gregg Kurstin (Pink, Lilly Allen, The Bird And The B), and Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio). J*DaVeY has also been featured on distinguished projects such as The Roots’ “Game Theory,” 4hero’s “Play With The Changes,” 88 Keys’ “Death Of Adam,” L.A.U.S.D.’s “Curly Tops & Nautica Jackets,” The Bloody Beetroots’ “Romborama,” Kardinal Offishall “Not 4 sale,” and various Sa-Ra releases.

Since then, J*DaVeY has released a few independent records that have gained reputable recognition. Their first being an independent double-disc “The Beauty in Distortion/The Land Of The Lost” through Interdependent Media/ILLAV8R in 2008 while signed to Warner Bros. Records/Sire. At the close of 2009, they released their first installment of “The Great Mistapes” titled “Boudoir Synema” and their second, titled, “Evil Christian Cop,” in February 2011.

After a recent separation from Warner Bros. Records, J*DaVeY has officially launched their self-built creative imprint ILLAV8R through http://theillav8r.com/and will be releasing New Designer Drug along with the re-launch of jdaveybaby.com through this online platform.

J*DaVeY’s show-favorites “Mama’s Back (EndOfUrWorld),” “Whatchalookin@” and “Queen Of Wonderland” are said to be key ingredients to their major debut New Designer Drug which will hit iTunes early Summer 2011.
