Hailing from Hollis, Queens Apani B Fly—the flyest MC to rock the Hip Hop Scene in years is making her presence felt.
Inspired by artists from Hip Hop’s “Golden Age” such as the Juice Crew, Run DMC, MC Lyte, and KRS One, Apani’s style consist of good old fashion bragging rhymes displaying her natural talent as a smart-ass. Apani got her feet wet in the game in the early 90’s with appearances on the Bobbito Garcia radio show. Since then she has remained visible by persevering and creating her own opportunities.
In 1996 her first 12 inch Estragen, was independently released and shortly followed up by several high profile guest appearances on projects with Organised Konfusion, Mos Def & Talib Kweli, as well as Pharoahe Monch and her first full length album in 1999, Rhyme Related, which was released with her former group, Polyrhythm Addicts. She has been featured in multiple magazines including Vibe, URB, The Source and XXL. Her reputation to be one of the best female mcees live brought her to opened for acts like The Fugees, Brand Nubian and Talib Kweli.
For the past decade, Apani has made it her business to remain a staple of the NYC underground scene with frequent performances at S.O.B.’s, Lyricist’s Lounge and The Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe. With her lyrics circulating, appearance on albums of MF Doom or The Beatminerz, the demand for her solo album was paramount. Apani put pen to pad and within a few months, Story to Tell her Japanese released LP in 2004, was the fiery result; On Story to Tell Apani worked with producers DJ Spinna, Da Beatminerz and rapper like Jean Grae.
The follow-up to Story to tell called “A” coming out early 2008 and is guaranteed to be and instant classic. The first single extracted from “A”, “Top of The block” featuring Big Noyd will be available soon.
